The Minster Church of St George, Doncaster

Standing on the site of the original medieval church, which was destroyed by fire in 1853, Doncaster Minster was completed in 1858 by Sir George Gilbert Scott (the architect of St Pancras Railway Station, London) and is reputed to be one of the best showcases of Gothic architecture in the country.

The Minster dominates Doncaster’s skyline, the Minster is a remarkable building in the tradition of the great Minsters of Yorkshire. It houses a Schulze organ and some stunning examples of Victorian stained glass.

The Minster is currently undergoing a major restoration programme, the Minster will celebrate its 150th anniversary in 2008 with a full and exciting calendar of events.
